his time the tramp crew serve you with a delicious double sider by wayne mcghie. -the love you save- was never released when recorded in 1972 and this long-lost track is now available here for the first time on 45! in 1972, wayne signed with record producer greg hambleton and, with former members of the hitchhikers, recorded a couple of tracks including -love is the answer- and -the love you save- at toronto sound studios. -love is the answer- was released later that year as a 45rpm single with the instrumental version on the flip, however -the love you save- was never relaesed. now, more than four decades later, the music of wayne mcghie has been re-discovered and his songs and musicianship are finally receiving the attention so long deserved.

originally released in 1978 on greg charmichaels red greg records, ‘lady bug’ and -love bug- are probably bumblebee unlimited s most recognizable hits. now repressed on the get on down label ... with an undeniable groove, signature keys and arrangements by patrick adams in addition to the comically sped-up vocals, lady bug is considered by many to be one of the most important underground tracks of the disco era. as with the original -lady bug- 12- single, the john morales and frank trimarco -sunshine sound- mix takes the a-side of the rca release. a true disco version in every sense of the word, this almost 10 minute mix brings out the latin percussions to the front making it a true dance floor classic and establishing john morales as one of the best remixers in the industry. the b-side belongs to one of new york city s hottest djs at the time: larry levan. despite being a very early remix by the legendary paradise garage dj, the talent was evident and his understanding of a club mix in wide display. it’s no wonder larry levan would go to become one of the most respected and revered remixers of his generation.

hypnus records regular blndr makes the leap over to silent season as they continue to celebrate their expansive tenth anniversary with a series of unmissable 12inches. dub techno is very much the order of the day on this grip of four tracks from the french producer, with shimmering chords and subterranean rhythms spelling out a perfect recipe for total meditation. -abstraction- is a highlight with its thin slithers of sound ducking and diving between the erratic kicks while partial drifts on a slow-creeping beat that gently buffets the vaporous chords downstream. with whispers of club compatibility tucked into the folds of these heavy-lidded tunes, there are many ways you could find yourself engaging with this 12inch.

hoel’s contribution to this disorientating piece of engineered sound sculpture, is imagined as a schizo-paranoid state of delirium. voices whisper over evolving modular phases of heavy, distorted nothingness. it is a full theatrical construction featuring a haunted choir conducted to sing in the producer’s own unique voice.
the second side features two tracks by label debutant simon marchesini. subtle, brooding almost-there beats reach from underneath, intertwining themselves with a rich sound carpet of complex poly-rythms and twisting vortex-like pads. marchesini seeks to push sound to the very limits of the spectrum.

o celebrate the 25th anniversary of ugkãs first album, get on down goes the extra mile, presenting it for the first time ever on vinyl. and 2-lp clear vinyl at that, giving the strutting, funky grooves the chance to really stretch out on your system. back in 1992, southern hip-hop was still proving to the world that it could sustain a fan base that was chiefly raised on rap from new york and la. the geto boys and 2 live crew had made strong cases by the earliest 90s, and pimp c and bun b were ready to make their own. most of the trunk-bumping bass comes from drum programs and basic sampling on these tunes in later years they would build their sound into something even fuller and deeper. self-produced with additional work from houston locals bernie bismark and shetoro henderson, the tracks here are minimal, slow and menacing, which matched their lyrical approach quite nicely. you can hear the beginnings of the groups true greatness in these early lyrical workouts ¹ several taken from the regional cassette-only ep the southern way that got them signed to jive with tales of street hustles, relationships and self-reliance in a world stacked against them. they may have been done early-on, but that doesnt mean they arent crucial to ugks legacy cases in point being the three singles: something good, a charismatic update to bill withers use me up, and pocket full of stones (the latter featured on the menace ii society soundtrack). beyond the singles, deeper cuts like iãm so bad, feels like iãm the one whos doin dope and cramping my style made it clear to the world that this crew had the attitude and charisma to make even bigger waves in the years to come.

you re alone and you close your eyes. don’t imagine figures of light, make the darkness conscious. it becomes deeper, not eyelids anymore, and then something is around you, but you can’t open your eyes, you’re deep inside them. merge into oneness, not bright above not dark below. something with has no echo. waves and motion, not space and time. if a tree falls in a forest where no one is listening, does it make a sound? there are no signs in the snow. why this dream of something cold? the world is blue at its edges, the colour of that which can never be possessed. blue flames, deep ice, twilight. how do you observe yourself without knowing that you’re looking? the other side of your face. why don’t you let the gap be a gap? i was afraid there was too much space. when you stop focusing the image appears. everything seen at once. turn yourself into a point to get behind the surface. a messenger between two worlds. the hidden meaning behind alchemy: to be born again. you’re not born into this world but out of it. travel by heat, words are too slow. sound knows how to get around edges, wiser than light.

pisetzky s full debut album on just this includes adventures into contemporary techno music, fines ambient works, and unique broken pieces. an intense mixture of incredible warmth, weird fluffiness, mystic trumpets and high uplifts, the album is interspersed with short ambient and fragmentated interludes, each just a few minutes long: ‘state of consciousness’ and ‘tears of a rough machine’ are serene and reflective tracks that give the listener time to breathe and bringing him/her back to more dancefloor focused tracks of the lp like viridis, bakwas and wand. the result is a magic story, a history in eleven chapters that the listener is guided through, like the landscapes of a mystic journey, with a twist on the melodies and hidden effects behind every deep bass sound.

iona fortune is a composer and producer from glasgow and presents the “tao of i” album as her debut release. inspired by eastern philosophy and slated to be the first in an 8 album series exploring all the symbols of the i ching, her music is influenced by oriental sounds and features a palette of instruments that includes the guzheng, gamelan and synthi aks. the overall effect is a singular and beguiling sound that loosely fits in with the fourth world concept imagined by jon hassell, and indeed iona fortune has also contributed a track to optimo music’s new fourth world compilation “miracle steps”. the initial vinyl edition will come on a white vinyl pressing with inside sleeve and original artwork by iona fortune.
